How a vacuum home lift works

A Nibav home lift has no hydraulic ram, no steel cables, and no counterweight. The cabin moves because of a simple, controllable change in air pressure inside a sealed cylinder — the same principle that lets a straw hold a column of liquid in place. Everything you'll read below is how that works, in plain language.

Air pressure does the lifting

The cabin sits inside a sealed, transparent cylinder. Turbines mounted at the top of that cylinder draw air out of the space above the cabin, lowering the pressure there. Ordinary atmospheric pressure underneath the cabin doesn't change — so it simply pushes the cabin upward, into the lower-pressure zone above it.

To come back down, the turbines let that air return above the cabin, gradually and under control. As the pressure above equalises with the pressure below, the cabin floats down on its own weight, under gravity. There's no motor working hard to lower it — which is why descent uses almost no power at all.

The whole system runs on single-phase household supply · zero power on descent — the kind of single-phase supply already wired into a typical Ghanaian home. There's no need for a three-phase feed or dedicated transformer.

Turbines lower the pressure above the cabin; normal pressure below pushes it up. Reversing the flow lets the cabin float back down on gravity.

No pit

The cylinder sits directly on your existing floor slab — nothing is dug out beneath it.

No shaft

The cylinder is its own structure. It doesn't need a masonry shaft built around it.

No machine room

The turbine sits on top of the cylinder itself — there's no separate plant room to build.

Because the whole assembly is self-supporting, it carries its own structural load rather than relying on your walls or floors. That's also what makes it possible to dismantle and relocate a lift if you ever move house — it isn't built into the fabric of the building the way a conventional shaft-based lift is.

Installed in days, not months

Most homes are ready for a Nibav lift as they are. Installation typically takes 2–5 working days, with no civil works — no breaking floors, no rerouting drainage, no months of builders on site.
